New York¡¦s Kennedy International Airport saw its busiest month for cargo in 2009 in October as tonnage fell 11.5 percent from the same month a year ago, the slimmest decline so far this year.
The airport saw freight traffic grow 8.1 percent from September to October, including an 11.9 percent gain on a month-to-month basis in international freight tonnage, a major part of the cargo business for the key trans-Atlantic gateway.
Kennedy Airport¡¦s freight tonnage was down 27 percent in the first 10 months of 2008, including a 27.4 percent slide in international business, compared to the same period a year ago.
The 107,466 tons of cargo handled at the airport in the month was the most at JFK since October 2008.
The airport remained on track to have its lowest freight tonnage total since the early 1990s and its fifth straight annual decline. Freight tonnage in 2008 was the lowest since 1993.
